This preventable condition claims over 350,000 lives every year, but with early detection and treatment, we can save countless lives and create a healthier future.

Rheumatic heart disease is caused by untreated Group A Streptococcus (Strep A) infections, often starting with something as simple as a sore throat. When left undiagnosed and untreated, Strep A can lead to life-threatening complications, including heart failure and stroke. However, this tragedy is entirely preventable. The solution is clear: diagnose the infection early, treat it with antibiotics, and stop RHD before it starts.

Thanks to our partnership with Light AI, we are bringing a game-changing innovation to communities in Africa. Light AI has developed an AI-powered technology that allows for rapid and accurate Strep A diagnosis through a smartphone. This technology provides results in just a few minutes — no expensive lab equipment is required. In regions with limited healthcare resources, this solution is a lifeline. Healthcare workers can now identify Strep A infections immediately and begin treatment, reducing the risk of rheumatic heart disease and saving lives, one smartphone at a time.

We’re excited to launch a Strep A test donation program over the next 6 months to help bring these life-saving tests to Africa. With your support, we will provide healthcare professionals in underserved areas with the tools they need to quickly diagnose Strep A and thus help prevent rheumatic heart disease.
